Responsibilities
The Director of the Florida State University K-12 Developmental Research Lab Charter School is a key leader responsible for overseeing all educational and operational activities within the charter school district. This role requires a strategic and visionary leader who is committed to ensuring high standards of student achievement, maintaining a strong and supportive school culture, and managing resources effectively to drive the success of the institution. The Director will work collaboratively with the School Board, school administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and community stakeholders to implement the mission, vision, and goals of the FSUS lab charter school, ensuring that they align with state and federal requirements as well as best practices in K- 12 education.
Ethics, Governance, and Compliance:
Act ethically and according to Principles of Professional Conduct in decision- making and all aspects of leadership
Collaborate with the FSUS School Board to ensure alignment with the lab charter’s mission and legal obligations.
Prepare reports for the school board, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Monitor and ensure compliance with all state, federal, and charter authorizer regulations.
Leadership and Vision:
Develop, implement, and communicate a clear vision for student success and research that aligns with the mission of the FSUS lab charter school.
Foster a culture of academic excellence, equity, and innovation within the school community.
Serve as a visible, accessible, and approachable leader for students, staff, families, and the community.
Consistently promotes the safety and well-being of all students, faculty and staff.
Academic Achievement and Accountability:
Oversee curriculum development, instruction, and assessment programs to promote high academic standards, student achievement, and avenues for creative research.
Implement data-driven decision-making practices to evaluate and improve student performance.
Ensure compliance with state and federal accountability requirements, including lab charter school performance standards.
Staff and Personnel Management:
Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of qualified, diverse staff members who are dedicated to the FSUS lab charter school’s mission of teaching, research and service.
Evaluate school leaders and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive environment that supports teacher growth, creativity, and student-centered learning.
Community Engagement:
Build positive relationships with FSUS parents, families, community members, and other stakeholders.
Engage the community in school events, decision-making processes, and long- term strategic planning.
Financial Management and Operations:
Develop and manage the annual budget to ensure the efficient use of lab charter school resources.
Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding finances, funding, and operations.
Oversee facilities management, technology resources, and other operational aspects critical to FSUS lab charter school function.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- Valid state-issued school administrator certification or eligibility for certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of administrative experience in a K-12 educational setting, with demonstrated success in school leadership.
- Knowledge of charter school operations, governance, and the unique challenges and opportunities in the charter school sector.
- Strong background in curriculum, instruction, and assessment, with a proven ability to improve student outcomes.
- Experience in financial management, including budgeting and resource allocation.

- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of successful collaboration with various stakeholders.
