Summary
The Ray lab is seeking an experienced individual to assist with
basic science experiments, animal husbandry and data management
duties. The Research Technician will apply their skillset to an
ongoing project that includes neuroscience, pain biology and
immuno-histology. The technician will be self-motivated, dependable
and have experience genotyping using PCR, probing tissue for
fluorescent microscopy, and managing a mouse colony.
Job Duties
- Performs mouse husbandry including breeding, weaning,
euthanasia as needed to maintain multiple mouse strains.
- Performs PCR genotyping of mouse offspring.
- Maintains accurate mouse husbandry and records genotyping using
database software.
- Harvests and processes tissue from experimental animals for
histology or immunostaining.
- Assists with ongoing experimental work that includes
physiological and behavioral testing, data analysis, microscopy, or
other tasks as needed.
- Assists with oversight of supply inventory, procurement and
compliance.
- Works on environmental waste management for the lab.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four
years of related experience may substitute for degree
requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience that includes mouse husbandry and handling as well
as working with genetically engineered mouse lines.
- Experience with basic laboratory techniques that includes PCR,
histology, and immunohistochemistry is a strength as is perfusion,
dissection, tissue collection and processing.
