Job Summary
The Department of Special Education, housed within the College of Education at the University of
West Georgia, invites dynamic applicants to join our growing program. The College of Education at
the University of West Georgia is a doctoral-granting recognized leader in preparing exemplary
practitioners for a variety of educational roles. The College of Education offers high-level
technological support, mentoring for new faculty, assistance seeking research funding, and
opportunities to partner with area school districts and work with graduate students at all levels.
Located 45 miles west of Atlanta, the University of West Georgia is rapidly growing, with programs at
the undergraduate level through the doctorate and a diverse faculty and student population. Our
645-acre campus offers modern, state-of-the-art facilities complimented by beautiful green spaces.

The Special Education programs consist of four degrees with tracks in adapted and general
curriculum. Degrees include B.S. Ed., M.A.T., M. Ed., and an Ed. S. in Special Education. All programs
are online. The UWG special education initial certification programs have the highest number of
student graduates in the state of Georgia.
This is a 9-month Limited Term Assistant Professor position in the Special Education program with a
focus on STEM and technology integration. We are seeking an educator experienced in P-12 and
higher education who will help elevate and grow the special education program at UWG.
Responsibilities
- Developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate level special education courses, with an emphasis on STEM, AI, and Technology Integration;
Working on college initiatives regarding technology integration and Artificial Intelligence (AI);
Working collaboratively with P-12 school partners;
Participating in university, college, and departmental meetings, events, committee work, and professional service and completing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Earned terminal graduate degree in special education or a closely related field. ABD will be considered.
- Teaching children with disabilities in PK-12 schools for at least three years and
utilizing STEM educational practices in special education
Preferred Qualifications
- STEM certification
- Implementing technology and Artificial Intelligence initiatives in an
educational setting.
Proposed Salary
Salary commensurate with experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge: Knowledge of AI applications in education, including personalized learning, ethical
considerations, and AI-driven instructional design. Understanding of evidence-based STEM teaching
strategies and inclusive instructional methods for students with disabilities.
Skill: Skilled in using and teaching with learning management systems (e.g., D2L, Blackboard, Canvas),
AI tools, and STEM-related educational technology. Skilled in teaching online, hybrid, and/or in-person at the university level.
Abilities: Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams, university colleagues, and P-12 partners on
projects related to special education, technology, and AI in education. Ability to design and deliver
rigorous, engaging, and accessible courses in Special Education, STEM, and AI-enhanced learning.
