Position Summary:The Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) at the University of Georgia wishes to hire a postdoctoral fellow for one year, with the potential for renewal. The successful candidate will be part of a highly interdisciplinary team researching natural hazards risk assessments, resilience assessments, and nature-based solutions. In this role, the candidate will work under Dr. Alysha Helmrich’s direct supervision and with the broader team. Additionally, IRIS is a co-founder of the Network for Engineering with Nature (N-EWN), and the successful candidate is encouraged to participate in N-EWN activities.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:- A PhD in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with analytical and qualitative skills related to natural hazards risk assessment methodology, compound risk assessment, and resilience assessment.
- Ideal candidate would have experience with geospatial methods, data analysis, and visualization; expertise in coupled human-natural systems and/or social-ecological-technological systems; and a record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Thrive in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment and the capacity to conceptualize and implement high-quality/high-impact engineering research projects.
