Position Summary:

The Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) at the University of Georgia wishes to hire a postdoctoral fellow for one year, with the potential for renewal. The successful candidate will be part of a highly interdisciplinary team researching natural hazards risk assessments, resilience assessments, and nature-based solutions. In this role, the candidate will work under Dr. Alysha Helmrich’s direct supervision and with the broader team. Additionally, IRIS is a co-founder of the Network for Engineering with Nature (N-EWN), and the successful candidate is encouraged to participate in N-EWN activities.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

A PhD in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field.
Experience with analytical and qualitative skills related to natural hazards risk assessment methodology, compound risk assessment, and resilience assessment.
Ideal candidate would have experience with geospatial methods, data analysis, and visualization; expertise in coupled human-natural systems and/or social-ecological-technological systems; and a record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

Strong oral and written communication skills.
Thrive in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment and the capacity to conceptualize and implement high-quality/high-impact engineering research projects.
