Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:Public Policy is an interdisciplinary academic unit which educates undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students with the theoretical perspective, analytical skill, and substantive knowledge needed to respond to major domestic and global policy problems. The mission is to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to improve the lives of others.
Position Summary:This position is responsible for a variety of tasks and projects including maintaining, tracking, and reporting financial accounting data. Technical accounting work may include independent responsibility for maintaining accounting records or separate accounts receivable/payable and payroll functions. The accounting tech will create/correct journal entries and is accountable for accuracy of entries and reconciliation of data and information. This position will include varied responsibilities affecting the fiscal and financial operations of UNC Public Policy. The accounting technician has delegated responsibility to analyze data for accuracy, to problem-solve, and to interpret financial regulations and compliance.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Excellent organizational, communication, and collaborative skills are essential for this position. Previous experience with state funds, endowments and receipts-based revenue, as well as grants, is also required. Strong analytical skills and a high level of customer service experience with the ability to assist a variety of constituents including faculty, staff, students, and visitors is essential. The selected candidate must be able to work as part of a team. This person also must have experience with Microsoft applications, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Previous experience working in an academic setting. ConnectCarolina experience is also highly preferable, as is experience with Infoporte.
