Advertised Job Summary:The Office of Research is seeking to hire an Electron Microscopy Center Director to join our team.
The Electron Microscopy (EM) Center operates as a centralized facility for the University under the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) and provides fee-for-service and instrument access for transmission and scanning EM analyses using biological and materials samples. The facility includes a Zeiss Gemini 500 FESEM, Tescan Vega 3 SBU variable pressure SEM, and Hitachi HT7800 TEM microscopes. The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the EM Center. This position will oversee the Center’s budget and fee assessments, develop and implement strategies regarding the Center, and will develop new protocols to address experimental needs across the University.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience:Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of specialty.
Preferred Qualifications:Doctoral degree in life or physical sciences, or related field. At least three years of experience in directing or working within a service core facility for EM. Experience in sample preparation and analyses for qualitative and quantitative ultrastructural microscopy. Experience with operating and maintaining electron microscopes. Supervisory experience with research staff and students.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Expertise in operating SEM, TEM and STEM instruments including spectral analyses, ultra microtomes, sputter coaters, polishers, etc.
Job Duty:Oversee the day-to-day operations of the EM Center. This includes necessary maintenance and repair of instrumentation (either directly or in coordination with vendors’ technical support). Ensure compliance with all university policies, safety regulations, and standard operating procedures.
