Advertised Job Summary:This consultant provides hands-on, private business consulting and delivers educational programs to entrepreneurs and small business owners in the assigned territory. Some examples of subject matter the consultant will offer are business plan creation, fiscal management, obtaining financing, marketing, growth strategies, operations management, etc. The focus of this position is on the Hispanic/Latino small business community; the individual must be able to deliver services in both English and Spanish. The primary objective is to increase outreach and direct assistance that improve clients’ access to capital, job creation and retention, business startups, and business growth. The Hispanic Business Consultant is responsible for working with internal and external partners to develop an outreach strategy for the Hispanic entrepreneurial community that will build awareness of small business services, develop trust, and increase the number of Latino clients served. The business consultant must have a broad base of business knowledge, excellent research and analytical skills, be a creative thinker to assist with problem-solving and have the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously. Multi-county travel is required to serve the assigned area. Applicants for this position must have a good working knowledge of basic business tools to include financial analysis, business research, marketing, and accounting, and be proficient in the use of computers and MS Office. Consultants must be comfortable speaking in public to represent the SC SBDC at functions as varied as educational workshops and Chamber of Commerce events, and in speaking with a diverse group of individuals such as bankers, government officials, and resource providers.
Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related discipline and at least (2) years of related experience preferred. Must be bi-lingual.
The business consultant must have a broad base of business knowledge, excellent research and analytical skills, be a creative thinker to assist with problem-solving and can effectively manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously. Must be familiar with the cultures of the Hispanic communities. Some travel may be required to serve the assigned area.
Applicants for this position must have a good working knowledge of basic business tools to include financial analysis, business research, marketing, and accounting, and be proficient in the use of computers and MS Office. Consultants must be comfortable speaking in public to represent the SC SBDC at functions such as educational workshops and Chamber of Commerce or other public events and speaking with a diverse group of individuals such as bankers, government officials and resource providers.
Strong preference for experience working in or with small businesses and consulting experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience and/or knowledge of commercial business financing. Self-starter, goal-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Job Duty:Business consulting and training. Primary duty is conducting private business consulting on a variety of topics to help entrepreneurs start and grow their companies. Subject matter ranges from general business knowledge, business planning, fiscal management and assistance with applying for financing, marketing planning/digital marketing strategies, sales/growth strategies, HR issues, etc. Individual also develops and conducts group training workshops/seminars on topics of interest or need to small business owners.
