Education and Student Support (Wellbeing Services)
This is a fixed term, part time (0.6FTE) contract, commencing 9th April 2025 until the 15th of April 2026, to cover maternity leave.
The role is based on our Streatham campus in Exeter, although occasional home working can be considered.
Summary of the role
We are seeking to recruit a suitably qualified experienced mental health practitioner, to join our mental health team supporting students with complex and/or enduring mental health difficulties. The suitable candidate will have substantial experience in assessment and managing a caseload of clients with mental health difficulties. The role will involve triage and liaison with GPs, NHS, Mental Health services and the Wellbeing team. You may be the first point of contact for students experiencing acute emotional distress and will be able to deal with their complex mental health difficulty. You will also provide on-going therapeutic interventions for students experiencing difficulties with emotional instability either in the Wellbeing Centre or off site, remote services and web provision. You will ideally have some training in DBT or emotional regulation and be able to offer mental health support and advice to students.
The role involves close liaison and joint working across the Wellbeing Service to support students with a range of disabilities alongside liaison with other university staff and external agencies (e.g. Student Finance, Access Centres, GP, statutory mental health services and voluntary sector agencies). You will also be committed to the advancement of inclusive practice and widening access to this important student community.
What we are looking for
You will need to be a qualified and highly experienced mental health professional, with a core professional training in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy (for example), and accredited with their relevant professional body e.g. HCPC/NMC/BABCP/BACP/UKCP. You will have significant experience in supporting individuals with mental health disabilities and a real interest in managing complex difficulties.

Salary will be £42,632 (Grade F) per annum pro rata subject to knowledge, skills and experience.
