Position Summary:Job SummarySnyder County Children and Youth Services expects that student interns will participate in a detailed orientation to the Agency regarding our policies, services, goals, purposes and clientele. The intern will partner with the Agency to determine a schedule that meets the student’s needs within the construction of established standards. The Agency will provide orientation, training, supervision and evaluation of the intern. Student interns will participate in active work and review no less than 3-5 active cases each week. Student interns will experience all aspects of child welfare case referrals including intake, general protective services, child protective service and when available dependency court cases. In addition, student interns will participate in specially assigned task projects including but not limited to the Family Engagement Initiative, Families Are Worth It Campaign and in the creation of resource booklets for clients or caseworker use and distribution to families regarding service needs across systems. This is a non-exempt position as defined by FLSA standards.
Specific ResponsibilitiesStudent intern is expected to:
- Participate and perform the assigned duties of the agreed upon internship to the best of one’s abilities.
- Apply knowledge of applicable ethics and values associated with their course of study (ex. all nine social work competencies) in day-to-day work on cases and with colleagues.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Student must be able to walk and/or drive to site (approximately 1.3 miles from campus).
- Student must provide copies of all clearances: PA State Police, PA Child Abuse, and FBI Fingerprint Check according to agency hiring standards.
- Willingness to serve a diverse group of clients.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Creativity, attention to detail, strong work ethic, dedication to making a difference preferred.
Required Qualifications:Learning ObjectivesBy the successful conclusion of the internship, the student will be able to:
- Develop awareness of strengths-based support and interventions with children and families.
- Implement plans for assuring child safety, resource management and allocation and family wellbeing.
- Build written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and facilitation skills and advocacy skills.
- Learn the importance of self-care, healthy professional boundaries and cultural humility
EducationSophomore, Junior, or Senior. Psychology Majors.

LocationThis position is located off SU campus.
Additional RequirementsThis position is paid $15.00 per hour, with an estimate of 40 hours weekly.
Physical Demands- Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.

- Position requires occasional stooping, crouching, and bending.
