This position requires relocation to Austin, TX.
Direct the University of Texas String Project, a distinguished and
thriving community-based string education and teacher preparation
program celebrating its 75th anniversary. Conduct research that
garners national recognition in the field. Teach courses in the
undergraduate music teacher preparation program and in the graduate
program in music and human learning (examples include:
undergraduate courses in pedagogy, musical development, music in
communities, and graduate courses in the successful candidate's
areas of expertise); serve on graduate committees; supervise theses
and dissertations; participate in the work of the Center for Music
Learning.
Butler School of Music, comprising some 80 faculty and
approximately 620 music students, has an outstanding reputation for
its performance and academic programs. Degree plans range from the
bachelors to the doctoral level. The University of Texas at Austin
is a flagship, tier-one, research institution situated in Austin,
TX, a city known for its vibrancy, quality of life, and active
engagement in the arts. The University has been awarded the Seal of

Qualifications
Doctorate required. We seek candidates who are superb musicians,
teachers, and researchers whose areas of expertise complement those
of existing faculty, with a particular interest in string pedagogy,
the psychology of learning, and the musical development of children
and adults. Candidates should have a strong record of or show
potential for systematic research, and should show evidence of
successful teaching at the college level and in primary or
secondary schools.
