Central Connecticut State University invites applications to join
the Department of Literacy, Elementary, and Early Childhood
Education as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Literacy
Education. This is a tenure track position with a starting date in
August 2025. Responsibilities of this position include teaching of
literacy education courses (undergraduate and graduate),
scholarship work commensurate with the requirements for tenure, and
service to the university, community, and professional
organizations in the literacy field. This position also requires
the faculty to contribute to and participate in the life and
development of the Department and University, advise students,
engage in accreditation process, support student recruitment and
retention efforts, and collaborate with university colleagues,
PreK-12 teachers, and community partners.
About the Department
The Department of Literacy, Elementary, and Early Childhood
Education prepares knowledgeable and competent professionals in
advanced literacy, elementary education, and early childhood
education through research-based practices and authentic and
diverse experiences in school and community settings. The
Department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees that can lead
to initial and advanced certifications, provides professional
development, and organizes community events for educators,
students, and parents. We have diverse and accomplished faculty,
who are scholars and leading experts in the field, and continue to
maintain ties to early childhood and K-12 classrooms through
research, field work, consulting, and teacher collaborations. We
take pride in the high quality of our candidates both at the
initial and advanced levels, who are sought after once they
graduate from our programs. Our programs are nationally recognized
by CAEP, Specialized Professional Associations (SPAs), and/or
approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education

Position Profile
A successful candidate should hold a Doctorate in Literacy
Education, or other education related field with emphasis in
literacy education; they should be collaborative and knowledgeable
colleagues with extensive experience and expertise in preparing
K-12 teachers in literacy/language arts who can work with racially,
culturally, and socioeconomically diverse populations, including
English learners, and struggling readers/writers; they should have
experience of effective teaching in graduate and/or undergraduate
literacy education, and a proven track record of success in
research and scholarship in literacy education.

Applicant profiles and supplementary materials will be evaluated
for appointment based on the following:
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate in Literacy Education, or other education related
field with emphasis in literacy education. The completion of a
doctorate is required by the time of appointment.
- Teaching experience in literacy/language arts classroom(s)
K-12.
- Evidence of active scholarship or research in the field of
literacy education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification and work experience in reading specialist or
language arts consultant positions.
- Experience in educating teachers in literacy
diagnosis/intervention and/or literacy instruction.
- Evidence of teaching in higher education.
- Experience with accreditation process.
- Experience with program development and/or program
coordination.
- Professional publications.
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including
English learners, and struggling readers/writers.

Compensation and Employee Benefits
In accordance with the Connecticut State University American
Association of University Professors (AAUP) Collective Bargaining
Union Contract, compensation for this position is at the
Assistant/Associate Professor for 2025-2026. Salary is commensurate
