This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic junior clinical research coordinator to join the Cambridge Clinical Mitochondrial Research Group in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Cambridge (https://mitocamb.medschl.cam.ac.uk). MitoCAMB is a team of clinicians and PI's (with affiliated research laboratories), focussed on understanding the genetic basis and mechanisms of mitochondrial diseases (including mitochondrial eye diseases) and other rare inherited neurological disorders. The role holder will be based at Addenbrooke's Hospital and will work alongside our friendly and multidisciplinary team to recruit patients to a range of clinical research studies and trials.
The post holder will work with other team members to support the group's clinical research activity, by assisting with the recruitment of participants, and the coordination of clinic visits, examinations and assessments for a number of studies. They will assist in accurate record keeping, support participants through investigations, attend clinics, perform venepuncture, and complete basic laboratory processing of human samples. The nature of the studies mean that some flexibility in working hours may be required. In addition, the post-holder will need to work with a range of other teams within the hospital (e.g. Imaging, Clinical Research Facilities, Pharmacy), and consequently excellent communications skills are a necessity.
This varied and rewarding role would suit a highly motivated, meticulous individual with a personable and flexible approach. The role provides the opportunity to grow a diversity of skills and learn from experienced team members in areas such as clinical research, data management, and rare diseases. Although some prior experience of Good Clinical Practice, informed consent, blood processing and phlebotomy would be an advantage, full training will be provided.
The group and the wider University of Cambridge are committed, in their pursuit of academic and research excellence, to a pro-active and inclusive approach to equality, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity. The University particularly encourages candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds to apply. This is a full-time post but candidates seeking part time working would also be considered.
Informal enquiries may be made to Heather Biggs, Research Programme Manager (hb292@cam.ac.uk) and Elizabeth Ashby, Clinical Research Coordinator (ehra3@medschl.cam.ac.uk).
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
