Job Description
We are currently seeking an experienced Mental Health Advisor to join our vibrant and supportive team within Student Wellbeing Services, where you will assist with the provision of specialist evidence-based support to students who are experiencing emotional and/or psychological difficulties. (This is a part-time, 0.5 role)
About the Role
As our dedicated Mental Health Advisor, you will provide individual support to students experiencing mental health distress. Your responsibilities will include mental health triage, risk assessment, safety planning, and referrals to internal and external services.
You will deliver follow-up care, manage complex cases, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including GPs and NHS services. The role involves maintaining confidentiality, accurate record-keeping, and working with students to promote self-help.
You will also contribute to service improvement, provide training to staff, and stay updated on best practices. Regular supervision and collaboration across the university are essential.
About You
You will have professional training in mental health (e.g., nursing, social services, or a related field) and be registered with a recognised body such as the NMC, HCPC, BACP, or UKCP. You will have significant post-registration experience, including delivering short-term therapeutic interventions, risk assessment, and crisis management. Experience working with students or individuals facing acute and long-term mental health challenges is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to maintain therapeutic boundaries, and a commitment to equality, inclusion, and ethical practice are key. You should also have the ability to work under pressure, manage a busy caseload, and deliver psycho-educational training. Proficiency in IT and a good understanding of how mental health services support student well-being and academic success are required.

£38,249 to £42,882. Grade 7, per annum, pro rata (actual salary: £19,124 - £21,441 pa)
