The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to support the work of Prof Mario Recker. This Wellcome Trust funded post is available from 1 September 2025 to 28 February 2029. The successful applicant will support the team of computational biologists, immunologists and microbiologists with the analysis of high-dimensional datasets and the development of statistical and computational pipelines to identify biomarkers predictive of bacterial phenotype and/or infection outcome.
Notably, the successful candidate has the option of enrolling as a PhD student with the University (student tuition fees and research costs fully funded) and we would welcome applications from candidates who are interested in undertaking a PhD thesis during the 3.5 year period. About you
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be proficient in the use of open-source computing languages (e.g. R, python) and have a solid foundation in applying a range of data analytic techniques to analyse complex datasets.
The successful applicant will be highly self-motivated, be able to work independently, will have a keen interest in acquiring new skills and knowledge, and be able to work and communicate effectively as part of a cross-disciplinary, multi-national team.

The starting salary will be from £33,482 on Grade E, depending on qualifications and experience. (UK home level PhD fees for the duration of the project are also available.)
