Overview:THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS
This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.
DEFINITION:
Functions as liaison between physician, coaches, parents, student-athletes and administration. Arranges for and assists with pre-season physical examinations for all sports; and coordinates physical screenings to detect pre-existing conditions that would limit or prevent participation in intercollegiate athletics. Administers emergency care, treats acute, sub-acute and minor chronic disabilities, and/or refers injured student-athlete to physician; evaluates physical condition of injured athletes; advises, develops and implements programs for routine and corrective exercises; provides rehabilitation services for injured student-athletes; uses treatment modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hydrotherapy and therapeutic exercise; and recognizes and manipulates conditions which require special taping, bracing or padding, either preventative or rehabilitative. Designs, develops and supervises conditioning and reconditioning/rehab programs. May assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment. Arranges transportation as needed for injured athletes. May accompany football team to all contests; serves as host athletic trainer for visiting teams; and attends home athletic events when scheduled. Maintains and operates the athletic training room. Maintains all student-athlete health records and maintains records for all the individual injuries and treatments of injured athletes. Prepares and oversees budget for medical and athletic training supplies and equipment. May oversee student interns in the Athletic Trainer program. Educates student-athletes about generally accepted health and safety knowledge. May be required to work and/or oversee athletic special events. Performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives general supervision from the Associate Dean. Exercises no supervision of staff.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and one (1) year of experience as an athletic trainer.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:- Evaluates all initial athletic injuries and recommends, responds to, and performs appropriate medical care to student athletes; communicates diagnoses, medical treatment, and rehabilitation information to student athletes and their parents, as legally required.
- Develops and implements injury management protocols and emergency action plans; renders first aid, immediate injury evaluation, initiates Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and activates Emergency Medical Services (EMS) when necessary at practices, hosted events, and required off-campus events.
- Provides athletic injury documentation, injury surveillance, follow-up treatment, and rehabilitation under a physician’s direction; manages treatment of chronic athletic injuries; determines and certifies ability of students and athletes to participate in the athletic program.
- Develops and implements therapeutic exercise programs.
- Recommends and implements appropriate preventative measures to avoid athletic injuries, illnesses, and conditions.
- Organizes and conducts pre-participation exams; conducts various screening procedures, including physical exams and assessments; develops and implements conditioning programs to reduce risk of injury and illness.
- Performs and applies preventative taping, wrapping, bracing, and padding of injured areas to the student athlete.
- Arranges for transportation, loading, and set-up of medical equipment to event sites.
- Provides reports to coaches and other District personnel on injuries and status of student athletes under treatment.
- Serves as a liaison between physicians, coaches, athletes regarding athletic injuries and medical insurance claims.
- Assists with the budgeting, ordering, and inventorying of athletic training equipment and supplies.
- Arranges for physician and/or ambulance coverage at games when required.
- Maintains all forms, reports, and medical records related to athletic injuries, rehabilitation, and clearance.
- Maintains working areas clean and in sanitary condition; wipes down treatment tables, taping tables, and counters, sweeps the floors, and cleans whirlpool and other equipment.
- May oversee and provide work direction to student aides and interns from the athletic training education program(s) and other student volunteers.
- Attends seminars, conferences, and other meetings in order to maintain status and certification and to keep up to date on legislation and trends affecting the job area.
- Learns and applies emerging technologies and, as necessary, to perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timely manner.
- Promotes an environment of belonging as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, anti-racism, and accessibility.
- Provides quality customer service when interacting with the public, vendors, students, and College staff, including individuals from minoritized groups.
- Supports and abides by federal, state, local policies, and Board Policies and Administrative Procedures.
- Assist with Athletic Special Events
- Prepares and delivers oral presentations related to assigned areas as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

License(s) & Other Requirements:Current Athletic Trainer (ATC) and CPR certificates are required by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
The incumbent may periodically be required to travel to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver’s license.
Working Environment::Employees work in the field and/or facilities. Employees are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, and road hazards. Employees may interact with staff and/or public and private representatives, and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
Physical Demands:Must possess mobility to work in the field as well as around various District facilities. The job involves field work requiring frequent walking at landscape site areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites; lift, move, and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
