Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.
Department Information
The Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education (SMGE) offers undergraduate programs in Middle Grades Education and Secondary Education as well as graduate programs (M.A.T., M.Ed., Ed.S., Ed.D.) in various middle and secondary area concentrations. Service courses are also offered to support secondary, elementary, and PK-12 programs. The department faculty are committed to the development of expertise in teaching and learning in collaboration with units across campus and local school districts. Our programs foster the development of knowledge, skills, and dispositions required of educators who design and implement integrated instructional programs for learners that are developmentally and culturally responsive.
Job Summary
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position as Clinical Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction in the Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education (SMGE) with a preferred start date of August 2025. This is a nine-month contracted position. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education, the Clinical Assistant Professor of Curriculum & Instruction maintains a balance that is different from that of tenure track faculty regarding their workload model and expectations.
- Workload expectations for teaching are the equivalent of four courses per semester (4-4 courses per contract year). The Clinical Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction will teach students enrolled in the Curriculum and Instruction Educational Specialist (CIES) program and will advise graduate students within SMGE. More specifically, the Clinical Assistant Professor will successfully:
- Teach core, elective, and/or capstone courses in the CIES program.
- Teach in other programs within SMGE aligned with disciplinary expertise as needed.
- Provide information on SMGE programs to potential graduate students.
- Lead program coordination activities including but not limited to curriculum development and revision, assessment, recruitment, advising, mentoring, and other graduate student success activities in the department.
- Attend SMGE department, CIES program, and Bagwell College of Education meetings, as required.
- Engage in department and college service activities, including collaboration with P-12 partners, as required.
Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate, or the foreign equivalent, in Curriculum & Instruction, Curriculum Studies, Curriculum Theory, or a related discipline (e.g., Teacher Education, Teaching and Learning, Social Foundations of Education, other Teaching and Learning fields, etc.).
- Work experience in P-12 schools (including national and/or international contexts).
- Experience with instructional technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching at the graduate level in Curriculum & Instruction or related fields that include Teacher Education, Teaching and Learning, Social Foundations of Education, and other Teaching and Learning fields.
- Evidence of scholarship/creative activities that improve graduate level teaching and demonstrate familiarity with one's field of expertise.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Experience supporting students in conducting research.
- Experience teaching on-line or hybrid courses.
- Recent experience working in P-12 schools (including national and/or international contexts).
- Experience with online teaching and online course development as well as program coordination/development.
- Experience with recruitment, advising, mentoring, and other forms of programmatic support for graduate students.
- Experience serving on doctoral committees.
- Experience teaching core and elective courses, as well as capstone courses that focus on conducting research projects.
- Experience engaging in departmental initiatives aimed at graduate student success.
- Evidence of ability to work with colleagues and students in a collegial, professional manner.
