The role
We are advertising for a Trial Portfolio Lead for 12 months of maternity cover (or earlier return of post-holder). The Bristol Trials Centre (BTC) is a UKCRC-registered clinical trials unit. The role holder works with the Head of BTC Operations to deliver the portfolio of studies, implementing process improvement, representing the BTC externally and working with Chief Investigators during award applications to include appropriate BTC resources. This advert is to cover a period of maternity leave, so a secondment will be considered for an internal applicant.
Start date: 1stMay 2025.
What will you be doing?
The role holder oversees and provides expert guidance to a team of Trial Managers covering multiple trials (typically 5-7) from set-up to close-down to deliver these to timescale, in accordance with procedure and legislation.
You should apply if
- Substantial experience of working across a portfolio of trials from start-up to close-down with knowledge of how UKCRC-registered clinical trial units operate.
- Expert knowledge of clinical trials regulations, standard operating procedures and quality assurance processes including codes of practice and the implications of non-compliance.
- Experience of developing, motivating, leading and line managing a large team of staff from a broad range of professional backgrounds always ensuring a high level of performance management.
- Knowledge of the work practices, processes, and procedures relevant to clinical trial development and delivery, including broader sector/commercial awareness. Developing and implementing new processes and practices.
- Knowledge of processes to develop successful applications for major grants from third-party bodies (e.g. costing, advice for resources).
- Efficient organisation skills; the ability to plan and prioritise to a high and constantly changing workload and to meet multiple deadlines.
- Empathy and understanding to enable queries and usual circumstances to be dealt with effectively, ability to diffuse difficult situations and resolve conflict.
