Job Summary The English Language Institute (ELI) at Columbus State University is housed within the Continuing & Professional Education department. As a USG certified ESL program, the Intensive English Program (IEP) provides a strategic pathway for students to meet or exceed English proficiency requirements for admission to approved USG institutions. The ELI also hosts international exchange students in the IEP, as well as facilitates short-term Immersion Excursions for groups to come learn at the ELI and experience CSU, Columbus, and the American South.
Columbus State University seeks a dynamic and experienced professional to lead its English Language Institute (ELI). The Director will oversee all aspects of the Intensive English Program (IEP), ensuring high-quality instruction, student success, program growth, and revenue generation in alignment with USG standards and university goals.
Responsibilities Significant Duties & Responsibilities include:
1. Program Leadership and Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the ELI, including curriculum development, scheduling, and staffing., Supervise and evaluate ELI faculty and staff, including full-time ESL teachers and part-time support personnel., Ensure program compliance with USG certification standards and university policies.;
2. Academic Oversight: Maintain and enhance the quality of the Intensive English Program (IEP) curriculum., Oversee the development and implementation of assessment tools, including the Comprehensive Academic or Professional English project., Ensure alignment of the program with USG English proficiency requirements for university admission.;
3. Student Support and Success: Implement strategies to support student progression through proficiency levels., Oversee student advising for international students in the program., Develop and maintain support services that enhance student experience and future goals.;
4. Strategic Planning and Growth: Develop and implement strategic plans for program growth and improvement., Collaborate with university leadership to align ELI goals with broader institutional objectives., Identify and pursue opportunities for program expansion and diversification.;
5. Administrative Management: Manage program budget and resources effectively., Support ELI student recruitment, admissions, and retention efforts., Ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting for all program activities.;
6. Partnerships and Outreach: Build and maintain relationships with other university departments, particularly international student services and admissions., Develop partnerships with external organizations to enhance program offerings and student opportunities., Represent the ELI at relevant conferences and professional events.;
7. Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with immigration regulations related to international students., Maintain program accreditation and certifications., Implement continuous improvement processes based on student outcomes and feedback.;
8. Revenue Generation and Program Development: Develop and implement strategies to increase program revenue through enrollment growth, new program offerings, and innovative pricing models., Identify and pursue grant opportunities and other funding sources to support program initiatives., Create and market short-term, customized programs for international partners to generate additional revenue streams.;
9. Partnerships and CSU Center for Global Engagement: Collaborate closely with the Center for Global Engagement to provide enriching student learning experiences that integrate ELI students into the broader university community., Develop and maintain partnerships with international schools and institutions to create pathways for student recruitment and exchange programs., Design and implement innovative ELI study abroad or cultural exchange programs that complement language instruction.;
10. Collaborative Leadership within CPE: Actively participate in departmental strategic planning and decision-making processes within Continuing & Professional Education., Identify opportunities for cross-pollination between ELI and other CPE programs, creating innovative learning experiences that span multiple disciplines., Contribute to the overall growth and development of CPE by sharing expertise, resources, and best practices across programs., Collaborate with other CPE program directors to develop interdisciplinary offerings that leverage the strengths of multiple departments.
Required Qualifications Required Qualifications include: Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field.; Minimum of 6 years of experience in ESL/EFL program administration, including curriculum development and staff supervision.; Demonstrated understanding of intensive English programs and their role in university admissions.; Experience with assessment tools and standardized tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, and GSE.; Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.; Excellent organizational and communication skills.; Familiarity with learning management systems and other relevant educational technologies.; Experience with budget management and resource allocation.; Knowledge of current trends and best practices in ESL instruction and program management.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications include: Ph.D. in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field.; Experience working within the University System of Georgia or similar state university system.; International teaching or administrative experience.; Proficiency in one or more languages other than English.; Experience with digital learning platforms and online program delivery.; Proven track record in revenue generation and program expansion within an academic setting.; Experience in developing and managing international educational partnerships.; Demonstrated ability to create innovative, interdisciplinary programs that attract diverse student populations.; Familiarity with grant writing and management in an educational context.; Understanding of the continuing education landscape and ability to identify emerging trends and opportunities.
Proposed Salary The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $66,468 - 73,277 and includes full benefits.
