Position Summary:
Job SummaryProvides daily cleaning tasks in assigned areas, to ensure a clean and safe environment for students and staff to live, work, and study. This position is defined as a non-exempt position under FLSA regulations.
Specific Responsibilities - Maintain all assigned offices, public areas, classrooms, and hallways in a clean, neat, and orderly condition. Wash chalkboards; gather and clean dirty erasers; sweep and wet mop floors as assigned; remove all waste using prescribed methods; wash window interiors as needed and exteriors within reach using stepladder. Vacuum carpet, shampoo carpet and clean furniture upholstery periodically using extraction machines. Wash, polish, vacuum, and dust furniture, brass fixtures, windowsills, baseboards, file cabinets, etc. using prescribed methods and materials.
- Sweep and wet mop all assigned restrooms in residence halls, classroom buildings, and office buildings. Clean glass, mirrors, light fixtures, sinks, bowls, showers, shower walls, shower curtains and/or doors and walls, ceilings, partitions, tubs, using prescribed methods. Remove all waste from restrooms using prescribed methods.
- Sweep assigned building entryways and maintain their cleanliness to a distance of fifteen feet from each entrance.
- Sweep or shovel snow from steps and walks, apply ice melt at building entrances.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and supply closets in a neat and orderly condition. Maintains inventory daily.
- Lock doors; close and lock windows; turn out lights.
- Report emergency repairs to the Facilities Management office; report general needed repairs to the foreman.
- Maintain complete familiarity with safety rules and procedures in the performance of assigned duties. Request additional training as needed.
- Maintain complete familiarity with operation and basic maintenance of job-related equipment and supplies. Request additional training as needed.
- Understand and follow all safety rules.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally sound workplace demonstrated by following good housekeeping practices, notifying supervisors of potential hazards, adhering to OSHA standards and other safe practice procedures, and being an example for other staff regarding safe equipment use.
- Contributes to the overall success of facilities management and the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as needed
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
The ability to receive and interpret instructions and to maintain a flexible work schedule for certain periods of the year required. Knowledge of and ability to safely and properly use the following equipment: Auto scrubber; Carpet extractor; Upholstery extractor; Wet and Dry vacuum; Power Washer; Vacuum sweeper; Broom; Dust mop; Spray bottles; Scrubbing tools; Polishing material; Cleaning chemicals; Disinfectants; Deodorizers; Razorblades in holders; Counter brush and pan; Supply forms; Gloves; Plastic bags in waste receptacles; up to 30 gallon containers, filled bags up to 15 lbs; Buckets and 5-gal wringer buckets up to 20 lbs. filled. Wet mop, 12 oz. and 16 oz. dry weights; Ladders and stepladders; wood, aluminum, and fiberglass

Required Qualifications:
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience
No experience necessary. Requires two to three weeks of thorough on-the-job training to become competent.
Physical Demand Work routines involve climbing stairs, step ladders, and ladders; bending; lifting and flipping mattresses; pushing, and pulling wet mops, beds, dressers, containers of liquids, and vacuum sweepers; lifting filled trash bags and transporting to collection site; moving classroom desks and chairs and office chairs; walking; creeping on knees; and using rotary and lateral hand and arm movement on a continuous basis. Lifts various weights up to 40 lbs. on an occasional basis. Pushes or pulls various weights up to 45 lbs. on a frequent basis. Carries various weights up to 40 lbs. on an occasional basis.
