Departmental Overview Summer Sessions, Study Abroad, Lifelong Learning & University Extension (SSALLEX) is the extended education division of the University of California, Berkeley and an essential part of the University's mission to extend the research and scholarship of UC Berkeley to a global community. SSALLEX is a vibrant and dynamic organization that enables more than 60,000 visiting, UC and potential Cal students; parents, faculty, academic units, international business partners, and central campus service providers participate in providing more than 2,000 summer courses, fall freshman programs, study abroad experiences, global internships, and year-around programs or courses, lectures, special events and interest circles for older adults.

Responsibilities - Applies professional or research concepts to perform analysis of data and systems pertaining to moderately complex projects, policies, initiatives, / processes, and / or functions.
- Participates in annual review and analysis of all study abroad program applications built in Slate, our internal application system. Reviews application recommendations and requirements provided by partners, then researches and translates how those requirements can be determined with existing structures of UCB courses and credit.Documents application and pre-departure requirements and liaises with Business Systems Analyst for technical updates to the applications.
- Gathers and assembles analytical and factual data on assigned problems and issues to prepare reports and / or analyses summarizing information on the assigned issues and commenting on other significance for internal or external constituents.
- Uses internal and external databases to create participant rosters, using data to determine students who need advising intervention for holds, changes of academic status such as going on academic probation, and required updates of a student's Expected Graduation term with their UCB college. Documents and applies requirements of UCB colleges and offices, such as the Financial Aid and Scholarships office and the Office of the Registrar, to the creation and maintenance of shared data sources.
- Assists with data gathering and analysis required for annual reporting to the Institute of International Education, and other campus and unit data requests.
- Prepares, edits and modifies documents including research reports, manuscripts, presentations and proposals.
- Drafts slide decks and written documents for leadership presentations on program growth, student demographics, scholarship distribution and impact, and surveys of program experience and satisfaction.
- Updates job aides to support study abroad application, intake review, participant selection, and pre-departure process and policy.
- Collaborates on creation and update of pre-departure and other program materials that ensure participant education and adherence to program policy and process.
- Prepares travel approval briefs and letters in coordination with the Risk and Student Support team.
- Participates in administrative / research policy and program project planning and development.
- Collaborates with Assistant Director of Operations on all aspects of Berkeley administered study abroad programs, including Berkeley Global Internships, Berkeley Summer Abroad, the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP), Mo'orea Island Sustainability, and the Planned Leave of Absence program. The Operations team supports policy, process, and implementation of advising tools, application development, selection or nomination of students, course enrollment and registration, scholarships and financial aid packaging, and all other aspects of preparing both students and faculty for their experience abroad in compliance with system-wide, campus, and departmental policy.
- Responsible for collecting, documenting, and ensuring the accuracy of program eligibility details for all Berkeley administered study abroad programs, such as GPA, class sanding, and other prerequisites on the Berkeley Study Abroad website. In coordination with Marketing, assists with updating and reviewing detailed public facing program and policy information.
- Using subject matter knowledge, collects and prepares information for use in discussions, meetings of internal and external constituents.
- Schedules and prepares documentation for internal and external meetings with study abroad stakeholders.
- On a project basis, performs analytical studies on a variety of policies, research initiatives, programs and issues.
- Uses internal and external data sources for benchmarking Berkeley Study Abroad administered programs to other UC administered study abroad programs for cost, enrollment, academic credit, scholarship support, and application requirements and processes.
- Uses advising, event, scholarship, and application and participation data to study student engagement with the Berkeley Study Abroad office and outcomes with participation.
- Provides recommendations and guidelines involving programs / initiatives.
- Collaborates on policy and process recommendations for assessment of study abroad coursework for transfer and college credit, and other Ad Hoc academic integration data, process, and policy requests.
- Coordinates program planning and collaboration with program / project staff.
- Contribute to the Data-Driven Outreach Committee in developing and implementing annual strategic outreach plans that center equity, inclusion and belonging for traditionally underrepresented students in Berkeley Study Abroad. Contribute to other committees as assigned.
Required Qualifications - Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Preferred Qualifications - Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
- Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
- Experience using Technolutions Slate in a university setting
Salary & Benefits This is a full-time, 3-year contract position.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $33.53-$38.32.
