About the role:
Qualified General practitioners are invited to apply for the post of Principal Teaching Fellow in Primary Care Design, Evaluation and Assessment within the multi-award winning Undergraduate Primary Care Education team (UPCE), one of the UK’s largest teams of its kind with an exemplary national reputation for curricular innovation in the Department of Primary Care and Public Health. UPCE works with over 500 GPs to deliver teaching across multiple clinical placements in 5 of the 6 years of the Imperial’s MBBS programme.
This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in developing a career in medical education. At the end of the post, the postholder will have gained a wide range of educational experience and skills in medical education.
What you would be doing:
- Teach and facilitate on UPCE placements. These include: Phase 1a and b Patients, Communities and Healthcare (PCH), Phase 1c Medicine in the Community Attachment (MICA), Phase 3 General Practice and Primary Health Care (GPPHC), Phase 3 General Practice Student Assistantship (GPSA) and Specialty Choice Placements (SCPs).
- Work closely with ICSM to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of primary care placements and educational innovations, including clinical learning and assessment activities within the undergraduate primary care placements.
- Work with UPCE and ICSM to develop and implement formative assessment initiatives with a primary care focus, including in relation to the MLA clinical and professional skills assessment.
- Work with UPCE and ICSM to ensure a strong primary care focus is integrated within teaching of core concepts within longitudinal and cross-sectional themes across the curriculum.
- Contribute to medical student assessment, including constructing questions, performing clinical assessments, marking coursework and examinations.
- Contribute to/lead innovative educational projects relating to UPCE, including the Unit’s Inspire GP initiative which is designed to inspire students to consider a career in General Practice through a programme of events, mentoring and collaborative working with students.
What we are looking for:
- Certificate of Completion of Training in General Practice or equivalent.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council
- Postgraduate qualifications and /or training in medical education
- Evidence of teaching experience
- Passion for undergraduate medical education and a commitment to general practice as a focus and setting for undergraduate learning
- Experience in curriculum design, evaluation and assessment
- Good understanding of the organisation of general practice and current developments in primary care.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, academics, clinicians, administrative staff and external stakeholders
