Required Qualifications:

- Post bachelor experience in Student Affairs.
- Served in a defined leadership role in one or more of the
following: residence life, student activities and organizations,
student government, or orientation and first year programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in student Personnel or related field.
- Previous experience in building management.
- Previous experience in staff supervision.
- Previous experience in crisis management and/or emergency
response.
- Previous experience with community engagement/development
activities.
- Previous experience with student support or retention
initiatives.
Job Description:
The Residence Hall Director position is a full-time, live-in role
with primary responsibility for managing the daily operations of
one or more of our residential buildings. A successful RD at Texas
State is responsible for building a strong community, supporting
the staff they supervise, and generating meaningful opportunities
for students to connect to campus through intentional interactions
and connections. Critical functions of the position include
building management, supervision, community engagement, crisis
management, student success, and serving as an active department
member. This position will report directly to an Assistant Director
of Residential Experience. The Residence Director must be able to
physically perform the job’s essential duties, which include
regularly accessing all areas of their assigned residential
building and periodically accessing other campus areas. In
emergencies, the Residence Director must be able to access all
various building areas promptly and appropriately. The Residence
Director will frequently utilize a computer and a phone.
Job Duties:
Supervision:
- Provide day-to-day supervision and support of a staff of
Resident Assistants and Desk Assistant within their assigned
community.
- Management of staff meetings, one-on-one meetings, and other
interactions with staff to provide maximum support and direction to
execute community goals.
- Evaluate performance of student employees, including conducting
performance evaluations to support their professional
development.
- Participate in selection and training efforts for all staff
members.
Student Success & Community Engagement:
- Serve as the primary individual responsible for executing the
Residential Experience through hall programs, community-wide
events, athletic events, intentional interactions and other
departmental initiatives.
- Direct, assess, and execute community development, engagement
activities, and persistence initiatives per departmental directives
to increase student retention and a sense of belonging at Texas
State.
- Work with assigned Living-Learning communities.
- Serve as an advisor for Hall Council in developing community
initiatives and student leadership.
- Actively participate in divisional student success initiatives
regarding mid-semester grade warning outreach, enrollment and
registration outreach, residential feedback surveys, and other
retention initiatives.
Crisis Management & Student Support
- Serve as a member of the departmental on-call rotation.
- Actively engage with and seek to resolve issues for students of
concern to ensure their support.
- Serve as a conduct officer to address behavioral concerns
within the assigned community.
- Consistently be responsive to the needs of the assigned
community in relation to community trends, student needs, and
emergency response. Serve as a referral agent for students to
resources across the institution.
Building Management
- Assist with responsibilities for opening, closing, budget
management, occupancy management, facilities, and desk operations
within their community.
- Collaborate and meet regularly with assigned neighborhood team
that consist of a Head Maintenance Worker and a Head Custodian to
manage facilities related needs throughout the community.
- Oversee room occupancy, resident room change requests, and
maintenance of resident and common spaces throughout the academic
year.
- Maintain essential office records as outlined by Texas State
University.
Divisional & Departmental Responsibilities
- Actively participate in departmental programs and projects
designed to support the mission and goals of the department,
division, and institution.
- Participate actively as a member of the Division of Student
Success and serve as a positive role model for students and
staff.
