About the role:
We are currently seeking a Technician in Animal Care to join our Animal Sciences department at The Bedford College group.
As a Technician in Animal Care, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Contributing to the day to day running of the Zoological Education Centre
- Participating in the care of animals housed within the centre; including farm, pet and exotic species (chelonian, snakes, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and exotic mammals).
- Preparing resources and providing support to teaching staff and students during practical sessions
- Maintaining professional presentation and standards at the centre
- Participating in the care of all species of animals housed at the centre
- Communicating effectively and working proactively as part of a team.
- Contributing to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and assisting in the development and enrichment of animal enclosures and accommodation
- Undertaking administration of veterinary medicines under direction from the team lead when required
- Providing a high-quality learning environment for students
- Preparing practical resources prior to lessons and clear away afterwards
- Proactively supporting learners and teachers in practical environments
- Maintaining college Animal Care areas and equipment and ensuring it is in a safe usable condition
- Completing maintenance tasks as appropriate
About you:
- Have a Level 3 qualification in relevant subject (Animal Management / Animal Science)
- Have English and Maths or similar at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent
- Have relevant current vocational experience in the animal care sector
- Have experience of caring for a wide range of animals to include farm, pet and exotic species (chelonian, snakes, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and exotic mammals)
- Possess the ability consistently to support a high-quality learning experience for all students
- Possess the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Possess the ability to maintain high standards of animal welfare
- Be reliable and punctual
- Possess the ability to work evenings / weekends
- Hold a current driving licence and access to a vehicle
