Under the direction of the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement & Alumni Relations, the Chief Operating Officer provides strategic planning, management, and direction to support and promote fundraising as related to the following functional areas: Information Management and Database Administration, Special Events, Communications, Center for Emeriti and Retirees, and Human Resources. Serving as an integral member of the Vice Chancellor's senior staff, the Chief Operating Officer will employ their knowledge and experience with best practices related to these functional areas through the development and administration of efficient systems and processes that provide an essential infrastructure designed to ensure maximum success toward the University's fundraising goals. The incumbent will ensure the department's resources are aligned with business objectives for maximum utilization. The incumbent will interact with exective leadership to establish organization specific plans and objectives, resolve controversial issues, negotiate solutions, and influence and/or persuate other high-level leaders. This role participates as a memer of the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement executive leadership team to develop solutions and align business needs, performance forecasts and operations in order to achieve campaign goals. The incumbent will collaborate with the Vice Chancellor and executive leadership team in setting organizational vision and operational strategy and translating strategy into actionable goals for performance and philanthropic growth Finally, this incumbent will lead a team of managers, instilling strong management practices, developing goals, operational standards and benchmarking for functional areas to ensure contribution and success to the overall organization's vision, objectives, and deliverables. They will oversee employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture ensuring team members thrive and organizational outcomes are met.
Compensation Range:Commensurate with Experience

Extensive knowledge and experience with the principles, best practices and techniques relevant to higher education fundraising.Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic plans, policies and procedures; including guidelines and metrics to track progress and effectiveness of projects.Demonstrated experience in leading, supervising, and motivating a leadership team, including organizing work flow to accomplish established objectives, delegating responsibility, training, mentoring, and evaluating individual and team effectiveness.Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Excellent leadership abilities to oversee multiple functions or departments through subordinate managers. Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll. Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques. Skills in establishing and implementing customer service standards. Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals which measure effectiveness of contributions to efficient operations of department. Strong knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs. Advanced project management skills, including the capability to manage capital projects. Advanced knowledge of administrative management theory and ability to translate this knowledge into practice. Advanced skills in strategy development, systems planning and change management. Demonstrated knowledge and accountability related to budgetary planning and prioritization of projects, programs, and activities using sound judgment while meeting organizational needs. Proven ability to analyze and synthesize information and demonstrated resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to problems and initiative in presenting alternatives and implementing solutions to ensure effective change and/or eliminate or mitigate potential negative effects. Excellent initiative and organizational skills to prioritize complex tasks, projects, and work flow, and to use independent judgment to make decisions regarding operations and deadlines.
Preferred:Experience working within a comprehensive research university fundraising campaign preferred.Advanced degree/post-secondary education preferred.In-depth knowledge of the Salesforce (ZotForce) database
Special Conditions Required: May be required to drive on occasion to perform routine or essential job responsibilities. Must possess a valid California driver license and participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice Program. Final candidate subject to background check.
